Register to become a donor and find out your blood type
Give Blood NHS will be visiting Wellington Place on the 20th February from 10.30am – 2.30pm for What’s Your Blood Type. They will be set up in the reception area of 6 Wellington Place to provide an opportunity for new donors to find out more about how to register and give blood.
Come along for a chat and learn about the blood donation process before you decide whether to register – there will also be able to answer any questions you may have.
If you would like to register as a blood donor at the stall, then you can get a quick finger prick which gives an indication of your likely blood type*. From this, you’ll get information about how your specific blood type is useful and how often they advise donations to be made. The Give Blood representative can then book you in for an appointment to give blood at your nearest blood donor centre in Leeds. The whole process takes no more than 7 minutes.
Being able to do ‘What’s Your Blood Type’ visits and perform finger-prick tests on new donors is extremely useful for Give Blood NHS, as it helps identify priority and rare blood types. It’s quick and easy to do, so make sure you drop by and find out more – you might even help to save a life!

*Please note that as the test is not carried out in lab conditions, the blood type suggested may not be 100% accurate. There are certain criteria that will prevent people from donating blood such as previously having a blood transfusion, epilepsy, insulin-dependent diabetes etc. If you fall into one of these categories you will not be able to find out your blood type at the stall. However, you are still more than welcome to come along and chat with the Give Blood NHS representative about medications you may be on, travel, health or any other questions you may have.
