As winter settles in and the days grow shorter, many of us start to feel the strain whether it’s lower energy, more colds circulating, or a general sense that staying well takes a little extra care. The good news is that there are simple, sustainable habits that can strengthen your body’s natural resilience throughout the colder months.
To help guide us through these foundations of everyday immune support, Carla Paniagua Gutierrez, Holistic Heart Health Specialist with over 30 years of NHS experience and founder of The Heart of The Matter Nutrition, will be hosting our upcoming session Boost Your Immunity Naturally: The Everyday Immune Reset, taking place on 27th January at Wellington Central, 6 Wellington Place.
Carla is a Nurse Prescriber and BANT registered Nutritional Therapist based in Yorkshire. During this interactive session, she’ll explore how nutrition, sleep, and lifestyle habits can meaningfully influence immune health. You’ll also take home a delicious, healthy recipe to inspire your next meal.

Meet Carla from The Heart of The Matter Nutrition

“Support your immune system, don’t boost it”
Carla explains: “With over 37 years of experience in the NHS and specialist training in nutrition, my focus is on helping people understand that the immune system doesn’t work like a switch you can suddenly ‘boost’.
“Instead, it functions best when it’s supported consistently through balanced, everyday habits. During the session, I’ll be sharing why foundations such as sleep, nutrition, hydration, stress management and gut health create a far more resilient immune response than quick fixes or short-term trends.”

Carla’s five core principles for everyday immune support
During the session, Carla will explore these five foundations of immune resilience:
- Support your immune system rather than trying to “boost” it
True immunity is about balance, not intensity. Steady, targeted support is more effective than relying on supplements or short-term ’boosts’.
- Gut health plays a central role in immune function
A large proportion of immune activity is linked to the gut. Carla will explain how small dietary changes can strengthen gut health and support the body’s defences.
- Stress, sleep and recovery have a major impact on immunity
Even the best diet can’t override poor sleep or chronic stress. Expect practical strategies to improve rest and recovery in a busy lifestyle.
- Everyday nutrition habits matter more than quick fixes
Rather than focusing on supplements, Carla will highlight food first strategies that fit easily into daily routines.
- Consistency is more powerful than perfection
Long‑term immunity is built through sustainable, repeatable habits, not intense changes that don’t last. And yes… hydration counts too!
