Wellington Place will once again be a major destination for Light Night Leeds this month, welcoming visitors to experience spectacular light installations, family-friendly activities and street food across its vibrant city centre neighbourhood.
Taking place on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October, the Wellington Place Zone will transform the area dubbed as the ‘Northern Square Mile’ into an immersive cultural destination, with a programme centred around creativity, exploration and community.
Headlining this year’s line-up is Constellations, a striking installation by Studio Vertigo featuring an 8.5-metre illuminated Supernova star alongside two 3.5-metre Nova stars. Visitors will be invited to step into a celestial landscape brought down to earth, where giant illuminated forms create a mesmerising environment inspired by the night sky.

Adding a distinctly Leeds element to the programme, the iconic Grade II listed Wagon Lifting Hoist will become the canvas for a large-scale projection created by the Society of Light and Lighting in collaboration with students from Trinity Academy. The installation will showcase designs developed by young people, providing an opportunity to celebrate creativity and inspire the next generation of creatives.

Alongside the artistic programme, visitors can enjoy a range of free activities across both evenings. The popular silent disco will return, where families and friends can choose from a selection of playlists and dance beneath the lights, plus face painting will be available in Wellington Central from 6pm to 9pm.

Food and drink will also be available, with street food traders serving a variety of dishes from Tower Square throughout the event. Visitors can also make the most of Wellington Place’s established hospitality offering, including Veeno, Hoist House, Madre, Good Luck Club and Mad Frans, all of which will be opening their doors across both evenings.
Sarah Limbert, Marketing Manager at Wellington Place, said: “We’re proud to be welcoming Light Night Leeds back to Wellington Place and offering visitors another exciting programme of experiences to enjoy.
“From the spectacular scale of Constellations to the creativity showcased through the student-designed Wagon Lifting Hoist projections, this year’s event demonstrates the power of bringing art, community and culture together in the heart of Leeds.
“Whether you’re visiting with family, meeting friends or simply looking to experience Light Night from a different perspective, Wellington Place offers the perfect setting.”
Located just a short walk from Leeds Railway Station, Wellington Place’s traffic-free public spaces provide the perfect backdrop for visitors looking to explore one of the city’s most anticipated cultural events.
