National Walking Month is a key date in the Wellington Place calendar, with guided walks around Leeds city centre offered annually in May to celebrate. However, due to the current landscape, we are unable to host them this year, but this won’t stop our passion in encouraging you to keep active.
We understand this can be an anxious time for many, so walking once a day, either on your own or with someone in your household – whilst following the latest Government guidelines on social distancing – is a positive way to support your mental and physical health.
As May is National Walking Month, we’re inviting you to share your experiences of how and why you are (safely) keeping active from home. Are you missing your commute? Setting yourself up for the day ahead? Discovering new places that you never noticed were on your doorstep? Share them with us on social media using #WalkingFromHome and tag Wellington Place in your post.
Living Streets’ ‘Walk the Right Way’ offers helpful tips on staying safe whilst walking, alongside ideas on how to keep your daily stroll interesting.
If you’re staying at home but still want to keep active, stretch and try a low-impact alternative, you can sign up to one of our virtual chair yoga sessions.
