Charity clothes drop in aid of Martin House Children’s Hospice
Following the success of the last clothes drop, which raised an estimated £1000, Martin House Children’s Hospice will be visiting Wellington Place again on Wednesday 18th September, 8am – 10am in Tower Square.
Simply bring in a bin bag full of any clothes, toys, games and unwanted household items that are in a re-saleable condition, which will then be donated to the local charity shops. You can also bring in old textiles, in a separate bag, which Martin House are able to recycle in exchange for donations
Martin House provides family-led care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. They provide respite and palliative care across West, North and East Yorkshire both at the hospice and in the community. Families are at the heart of everything they do and they value each member as an individual with their own needs. The hospice itself is a place where children, young people and their families can come to stay from time to time along their journey and find support, rest and practical help. It is a place of love and understanding, a peaceful place but one that can also have a lively, friendly atmosphere full of fun and laughter, where children and their families can enjoy the best quality of life. They also have a growing community team who support families in hospital and in their own homes, and are often involved in advanced care planning. They ensure that families are able to spend quality time together and make informed, supported decisions about their child’s care.
They are only able to do this with the support of the local community as they must raise £8million pounds each year to continue offering their care and support. The hospice shops are just one way of raising money and your donations of unwanted items will help them to generate income. For one full bin bag of items, Martin House get around £25 which could be used to provide a pampering session for a teenager in need of some ‘me’ time at the hospice.
